Make This Air Fryer Whole Roasted Chicken

I always start by gathering all of the ingredients needed in a recipe and weighing and measuring everything before I start to cook or bake. This part is really important and key in keeping everything organized.

To make this air fryer whole roasted chicken you will need:

  • 1 whole chicken (approximately 1.4-1.8 KG or 3-4 pounds)
  • Olive oil (to rub the chicken with before seasoning)
  • Chicken seasoning (either store bought or homemade)

You simply start by preheating the air fryer to 180C / 360F. Then you remove it from packaging and pat it dry with a paper towel. Then you rub it with olive oil, seasoning and tie the legs together or tuck them under the loose skin. Next you place the chicken in the air fryer and cook for 50-60 minutes flipping it halfway done. After it’s cooked you remove it to a cutting board and let it rest for 5-10 minutes before cutting and serving.

Store This Air Fryer Whole Roasted Chicken

Store any leftovers of cooked chicken in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days.

Recipe Notes

Air Fryer: When buying your chicken make sure you choose one small enough to fit in your air fryer. And try placing it in your air fryer before you start to cook to ensure it fits. I have and love this Ninja air fryer.

Pat Dry: It’s very important to pat the chicken dry before you rub it with oil and seasoning. It helps the oil and seasoning stick better to the chicken and makes the skin crispier.

Seasoning: Make sure to season the bird well and all over so that there are no unseasoned areas. Also always season the inside of the chicken.

Temperature: Whole chicken is cooked when it reaches the internal temperature of 82C / 180F. Chicken cuts are cooked when they have reached the temperature of 74C / 165F.

Resting: It’s very important to let your cooked chicken rest for at least 5-10 minutes before cutting and serving. You can either let it rest in the closed air fryer or place it on a cutting board and put aluminum foil over the top of it.

Breast Side Down: You need to start cooking the chicken by placing it breast side down in the air fryer. This helps keep that part of the chicken juicy instead of dry. Flip the chicken halfway done cooking to get crispy skin all over.

How To Serve Air Fryer Chicken?

I simply like to serve air fryer chicken just like rotisserie chicken and there are numerous ways of serving a whole roasted chicken!

As a main course with sides. French fries and gravy anyone? Corn and coleslaw?

In soups. Cooked chicken can easily make your soup recipe so much faster.

On sandwiches. Leftover chicken is great to use on your favorite sandwich.

Make a chicken salad. Make your favorite chicken salad and serve it in between fresh baguette or ciabatta bread.

Tacos. It’s great as a taco filling reheated in your favorite taco sauce.

Other. You can use it in lots of other dishes as well, it will make any recipe that requires cooked chicken much easier.

Ingredients

1 1.4-1.8 KG / 3-4 lb chicken
1 tablespoon olive oil
2 tablespoons chicken seasoning
(homemade or store bought)

Instructions

Preheat the air fryer to 180C / 360F.

Remove the chicken from packaging and pat dry with a paper towel. Make sure that the cavity of the chicken is empty.

Rub the chicken with olive oil and then season all sides of the chicken. Also season the inside of the chicken.

Tie the legs of the chicken together or tuck them under the loose skin.

Place the chicken breast side down into the air fryer basket and cook for 25-30 minutes.

Carefully turn the chicken around and cook for additional 25-30 minutes until the chicken is golden brown and crispy with the internal temperature of 82C / 180F.

Once cooked, remove the chicken from the air fryer and let rest for 5-10 minutes before cutting and serving.
