Notes + Substitutions

Yogurt – In this recipe I like to use pain Greek yogurt but you can use any type of dairy or non dairy yogurt you want. Skyr also works great.

Chia Seeds – In this recipe I like to use chia seeds but you can substitute them with pretty much any other seeds or nuts you want. See more topping ideas below.

Granola – I like to use this granola but you can use any type of store bought or homemade granola.

Berries – I used strawberries, blueberries and blackberries in this recipe but any type of berries and or fresh fruit works great. More topping ideas below.

Coconut – I like to top my banana split with finely shredded coconut but if your not a coconut fan you can top it with a lot of other options. See more below.

Toppings Suggestions

You can top this healthy breakfast banana split with pretty much anything you have. But here are a couple of my ideas and suggestions.

Fruit: (Either fresh or dried) Berries, apples, avocado, cherries, oranges, kiwis, mangos, melons, papaya, passion fruit, peach, pears, pineapple, pomegranate seeds, dried coconut flakes, shredded coconut.

Nuts + Seeds: almonds flakes, chia seeds, sesame seeds, chopped nuts of choice, sunflower seeds, flaxseed, pumpkin seeds.

Other Toppings: Nut butters, chocolate chips, chopped chocolate, cacao nibs, maple syrup, honey.

Natural nut butters such as peanut butter or almond butter are perfect for topping this healthy breakfast with. And if you do I recommend that you heat the nut butter in a microwave so that it’s smooth and runny. Then you can drizzle it over the top of the banana split using a spoon. If you want to add a little sweetness to it you can stir in a little maple syrup before heating it.
